Hello,

Our last three games, we were being cupped. We usually attack with 3 handlers, 2 poppers and 2 deep. Yesterday, our team played terribly and never quite adapted. Everybody on the sideline didn't see what we did different that was not working, this time.
What are the common mistakes done when being cupped?
What offensive strategy should be used when cupped?

ocho on "The AssHammer - (New Throw?)"

So, I don't know if anyone else has seen anything like this but there is this throw I'm trying to develop that my friends and I named the AssHammer. You grip the disc like a forehand, bend over, and throw the disc through your legs and behind you. The disc flies rightside up like it would for a normal throw (not upside down).

Its mainly a joke throw that could have some rare uses, but I think it really has a some potential. My friend recently did an asshammer pull that made it all the way into the other endsone with quite a bit of float.

Anyways I'm tring to perfect my technique, and I'll maybe put an instructional video featuring me up on YouTube.

So try it out,let me know what you think, and let everyone know that it is the ASSHAMMER!

P.S. - Don't hit your crotch trying it (ouch)

P.S. - Sorry if this is old news.

P.S. - I never knew that Lights was my favorite Journey song until this weekend. Nice!

Edit:
Pros - Unexpected
Funny
Awesome
Good potential distance
Great for breaking the mark

Cons - Not accuarate (you're facing away from the receiver)
Difficult
Less reliable than the two basic throws

My team experienced defending against a split stack offense for the first time last weekend. I'd heard of this O strategy but never encountered it before. It seemed like they had specific, numbered cuts based on the lineup, often ending in a huck-though maybe that was just because we stopped the in cuts. My team struggled a bit defending against this new technique, especially the new players and i'd love to learn some more about it for the future.

Is there anyone that runs this offense and could give me an in-depth explanation of the strategy and how the cuts work?

Also, have you played against a split stack and have recommendations for defending it? I was thinking it would be similar to defense on a ho stack ("the clam") but didn't get to experiment much with that as our new players aren't yet comfortable with switches.

I know one of the rules of ultimate is 'a defensive player may never pick up the disk'.
But consider the following scenario:
Team A, on offense, commits a turnover to Team B, on defense, by sending the disk out of bounds. A player from Team A retrieves the disk from out of bounds and throws it to a player from Team B. Shouldn't the player from Team B be obligated to wait until the player from Team A catches up with his mark before he puts the disk in play?
I'm asking because some jerk from my game last night decided to start play before I was back on the field after I retrieved the disk for him. He told me "there are no courtesies in ultimate".

confusion on "Marking 1 on 1"

I have a question regarding marking 1 on 1.

When do I mark face-to-face and when I just run along with my mark? Which is better?

The problem with face-to-face marking is that I have an eye on my mark but don't really know whre the disc is and have to rely on my teammates yelling 'up!' and it sometimes can be very tricky.

The other style of marking is just running with the mark. I can see the disc all the time but it's easier to lose the guy I'm marking.

Need some feedback on that... Thanks.

Hey everybody, just thought I would bring up the topic of the Hammer throw, I honestly think hammer first before any other throw now, people also call a close pass hammer throw a scooper. I find that it is almost impossible to cover since you can even throw it behind your head and people cant reach inward to stop a pass.

Anyone have any stories or tips on hammer throws that would be awesome!

The other day I was trying to help somebody out with their flick and was having the darndest time making it work. Here's the issue: his base technique isn't too bad--his arm isn't overactive, his weight is on the proper side of his body, his release is reasonably flat--but the disc wobbles considerably when leaving his hand and while it starts flat or even a little i/o it usually starts turning over to the left (he is right handed). I advised him some on the proper grip and told him to practice with an exaggerated i/o, which seems to help at least some. What else can I tell him? Training techniques that others have used to perfect their flicks would be good to see here.

Are we going to see some set plays for end zone offense on the site soon? I feel like this is one of the biggest areas where inexperienced teams struggle. You patiently work the disc through the defense, maintaining nice flow, and then all of the sudden you reach the EZ. There's less space to work in, maybe you're trying to transition out of a horizontal stack, and the handlers are itching to throw a score. Too often, a turnover results. As someone who's played with a lot of inexperienced teams, or teams that were just thrown together for a particular tournament, I see this stuff all the time. I'd love to see some standard set plays that I could utilize in these situations, like the zipper and whatnot.

The collaboration potential is very high, and there is already some 'seed' content.

Hey Everyone.

I recently got picked as one of the pullers for the Australian U19 open team and was wondering what you think is the best technique is?

I don't really have a style, its pretty much just my Huck with a bit more float lol. But My shoulder has been acting up so I can't practice at the moment so what do you think is the best way for the pull to go up?

Hi Ultimate community. Welcome to the forum for the ultimatehandbook. I hope that this will serve the community well by promoting a question and answer style of discussion. I receive several questions about Ultimate all the time and many of them I cannot answer that well.

I don't intend on moderating this forum too much, aside from spam posts, but I will be moderating :).
