@ Perplexed...

"Play the disc" means that if a pick is called and the disc goes up, you can't just assume that play is dead. In the latest edition of the rules, if the pick is called away from the play that disc is live.

An example: Let's say that a pick is called at the front of the stack, maybe 10 yards downfield, as a handler is hucking it deep. An offensive player catches the disc 60 yards downfield, in the end zone. Does the score count? Yes, absolutely. The defender who got picked was nowhere near that play, and it wasn't his man catching the disc.

A good general rule as a defender is this: if a foul is called, you still need to play defense until the disc stops.

I'll third the comments about the rules. I've read through parts of the rule book, and some of it is hard to understand. Maybe a more in depth explanation of the fundamental rules that everyone should know to improve their game? thanks in advance

What does this mean?
# Always play the disc when a pick is called, this applies to all situations, not just picks.

What does "play the disc" mean? Is this to be understood in the same sense as "play the ball, not the player"?

How can you play anything if you're freezing?

I agree with Jonathan's comment about the rules. I'm a new player and the stuff on here has helped me a lot and stuff, but it would really help me, especially since I don't know all the rules yet.

Longtime fan of this site, with a request: could you add a section on, well, the rules. I know there's Ultimate in ten rules, etc, and I know there's the actual rulebook, but I think there's room for a middle ground (ie, key points about pulls, etc). At the least, a link to the latest rulebook would be a good thing.

The WFDFs rule state in 17.4

A player needs to be within 5 metres to call a pick.
Also the offence does not go back, but that the defender catches up following the call.
